Proposals for correcting budgetary imbalance subject to heated discussions on Wednesday - postponing decision not ruled out

Brussels, 13/07/2004 (Agence Europe) - Commissioner Michaele Schreyer's proposal on the generalised mechanism for budgetary correction will be subject to heated discussions on Wednesday at the European Commission (EUROPE 8 July p 15). It is very difficult to know how things will turn out but it is not ruled out, given the internal divergences on the future of the British rebate, that the Commission will finally decide to postpone adoption of the proposal to 20 July.
