She states that, after his meeting with Georgia's Prime Minister Mr Zhvania on Friday, the EU Special Representative for South Caucasus, Heikki Talvitie, stressed: "the need for tension to be eased in the South-Ossetia region and expressed appreciation for the efforts of Georgia, for its part, to contribute to this objective. (…) He condemned the hostage-taking, as well as the display of hostages on television. He also expressed gratitude for the countries that had contributed to the release of the vast majority of the hostages". After having announced the release, on Sunday, of three Georgian policeman still detained, the hostage takers had still not handed them over to the Russian peacekeeping force, which was then to hand them to the Georgian authorities, Associated Press reports.
