12/07/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has cleared the proposed acquisition of Dynamit Nobel AG, a German-based chemical company, by a Luxembourg-based subsidiary of US company Rockwood Specialties Group Inc. (USA). Dynamit Nobel is a supplier and service provider in the areas of specialty chemicals and material engineering. KKR also has activities in the chemical industry. On June 4, the Commission received a notification of a proposed concentration by which Knight Lux 1 S.a.r.L (Luxembourg), controlled by Rockwood Specialties Group Inc, which in turn belongs to US private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. LP, acquires control of Dynamit Nobel AG. The Commission also examined the existing or potential vertical relationships between the parties, in particular regarding lithium carbonate, formaldehyde and anticorrosion metal surface treatment products, but concluded that these relationships were too small to raise any serious competition concerns.
