Brussels, 01/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - In Slovenia, thirteen lists have been drawn up for the European elections on 13 June: 91 candidates in total will be contesting the seven available seats. The election will be run on preferential voting lines.
Liberal Democrats (LDS), which form the government with the Social Democrats of the ZLSD (Unity list of the Social Democrats) and the Slovenian Popular Party SLS are presenting a common list with the small pensioners party (DeSUS). It is headed by Jelko Kacin (LDS, 49 ), who was an observer at the EP, followed by Mojca Drcar Murko (LDS, 62 ), journalist and Roman Jakic (LDS, 37 ), who was also an observer. The president of the Union Association of Pensioners Vinko Golobec (DeSUS, 70 ) is fourth on the list.
The opposition list of the NSI (new Slovenian Coalition) is led by Aloz Peterle (56 ), who has been a member of the European Commission, followed by Ljudmila Novak (55 ), Mayor of Moravce, then Anton Kokalj (44 ), Secretary General of the NSI.
The Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) is headed by former observer Mihael Brejc (57 ), followed by Romana Jordan Cizelj (38 ), researcher and the political adviser Barbara Medved Spiletic (38 ).
The list of the Slovenian Popular Party (SLS) is led by Franci But (52 ), former minister of Agriculture, followed by Bojan Srot (44 ), Mayor of Celje and Natasa Kavas Puc (29), president of the "youth" wing of the SLS.
Aurelio Juri (55 ) is heading the list of the Social Democrats ZLSD, followed by Lidiia Mavretic (27) member of the "youth" wing of the ZLSD and by former observer Feri Horvat (63 ).
Eight other parties are taking part in these elections: (1) the nationalists of the SNS (Zmago Jelincic Plemeniti, president of the party is heading the list; Saso Pece is second); (2) The Greens of the SMS/Zeleni (Alenka Katarina Paulin; Bogomir Vnucec); (3) "Slovenia is Ours" (Alja Brglez, former spokes person for the government; Peter Raspor, university lecturer); (4) Ecologist Movement SEG (Leo Seserko, vice-premier minister for protection of the environment and regional development; Marinka Vovk); (5) the Workers Party NSD (Marjan Poljsak, president of the party and Mayor of Ajdovscina; Ana Antoncic); (6) the "Party of the Slovenian Nation" SSN (Mihael Jarc, councillor in Ljubljana; Ana Marija Hafner, former journalist); (7) the "Democratic Party of Slovenia" DS (Alojz Krapez, former minister for defence; Rebeka Rudolf); (8) the "Women's voice" party (Darja Lampe, business woman; Katja Sekelj).
