Packed timetable of EuroMed activities

Brussels, 02/06/2004 (Agence Europe) - The high-level officials responsible for monitoring the Barcelona process met in Dublin on Wednesday morning to follow upon the ministerial conference which took place in early May in the Irish capital, especially on the decision to create a cultural foundation to be sited in Alexandria. The practical details remain to be sorted out to allow this project to materialise. The follow-up committee will also carry out a general assessment on Thursday and Friday of the process to conduct the detailed study on the themes for the next ministerial conference in November to tackle, under the Dutch Presidency. The date (29 November has been pencilled in) and place have not yet been decided.

The month of June will be hectic. A meeting is scheduled for 17, 18 and 18 June in Rome to look into the state of play with co-operation on the "Med Heritage" project. In Brussels on 21 and 22 June there will be a meeting on the environment (as part of the Mediterranean action plan, SMAP). Civil society organisations in the EuroMed are- "Euromed non-governmental platform"- are planning to meet in Cyprus on 25 and 26 June. Last week in Brussels, exchanges of views took place between experts in trade of services, to prepare the working document to be submitted to the Conference of Trade Ministers, to take place in Istanbul on 21 July. In the next few days, the Finance Ministers of the EuroMed area will meet in Alexandria to coincide with a meeting, under the aegis of the EIB, to evaluate the functioning of the FEMIP financial mechanism.
