Industrial production down by 0.2% in March

Brussels, 18/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - Seasonally adjusted industrial production decreased by 0.2% in the euro-zone in March 2004 compared to February 2004, Eurostat, declared on Monday. Production increased by 0.4% in February after a fall of 0.4% in January. Output in the EU25 also decreased by 0.2% in March 2004, after a rise of 0.2% in February and a fall of 0.1% in January. Production in the energy sector increased by 3.1% in the Euro-zone and by 1.2% in the EU25. The largest decreases were observed in Lithuania (-4.4%), the Netherlands (-2.9%), Germany and Sweden (both -1.8%). The highest increases were registered in Portugal (+3.2%), Ireland (+1.7%), the Czech Republic (+1.4%), Latvia and Slovakia (both +1.3%). Energy sector production fell by 1.4% in the Euro-zone and by 0.4% in the EU25. Sales of goods and services fell respectively by 0.8% and 0.7%. Non-durable consumer goods declined by 0.2% in the euro-zone and by 0.1% in the EU25. Capital goods remained stable in the euro-zone, but decreased by 0.3% in the EU25.
