Brussels, 07/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Greek and Turkish Prime Ministers, Costas Caramanlis and Tayyip Erdogan, pointed on Friday to the positive development in cooperation between their two countries, especially in the economic sector, AFP states. During the visit carried out in Greece by Mr Erdogan, the first by a Turkish Prime Minister for sixteen years, Mr Erdogan said he was very pleased with the rapprochement which has taken place in recent years between the two countries. Mr Erdogan's visit takes place just after rejection of the plan to reunify Cyprus by the Greek Cypriots. "Over and beyond the referendums, the aim is still to reunify Cyprus", Mr Caramanlis said. The Greek Prime Minister also offered support to Turkey which is hoping to get the European Council in December to set a date for opening accession talks with the EU, while insisting on the necessary reforms still to be made. The two men also discussed their differences relating to the Aegean Sea and bilateral contacts held on these issues. "These meetings have not yet resulted (…) I do not think they will come to anything very soon, but the political resolve is there" for settling the disputes, Mr Caramanlis said. Turkey's Prime Minister will be in western Thrace on Saturday where a minority of 120,000 Turkey-speaking Muslims live.
