07/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - The meeting in Luxembourg on Wednesday between Luxembourg prime minister Jean-Claude Juncker and the General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) John Monks (see EUROPE of 5 May, p.17), allowed social priorities to be determined for the Luxembourg Presidency of the EU, which starts on 1 January 2005. The priorities are: 1) the need for a strong social dimension; 2) a viable Stability and Growth Pact; and 3) to revitalise the Lisbon Agenda. At the meeting, Jean-Claude Juncker expressed interest in participating in the ETUC's Executive Committee meetings and holding regular meeting with the ETUC General Secretary to brief him on the Presidency's social agenda.
