Brussels, 07/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - In the context of the operation "Europe: 150,000 young people speak of Europe in their local missions", young people taking part in social and vocational insertion have had the opportunity to express their views and their expectations of Europe. A first report on this campaign, which began in October 2003, will be made on the occasion of Europe Day on 9 May. Results confirm that these young persons have little knowledge of how the institutions work, of Europe's history and geography, but correct the idea that these persons in social difficulty have a negative if not hostile idea of Europe. They also show that they take an interest in Europe and wish for more information for well-informed participation. The campaign was launched at the initiative of the national Council of local missions, the "Fondation Dexia Crédit Local" and the Cidem ("Civisme et démocratie") with the support of the deputy minister for European affairs (France).
