Brussels, 05/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - The EU Council of Ministers adopted without debate, on 29 April, the decision on the new protocol for the fisheries agreement signed between the Community and Mauritius). The new protocol lasting four years (from 3 December 2003 to 2 December 2007) provides for the following fishing possibilities: - tuna purse seiners (22 for Spain, 16 for France, 2 for Italy and one for the United Kingdom); - surface longliners (Spain 19 vessels, France 23 and Portugal 7; - France has 25 grt (gross registered tonnage) per month as an annual average for line-fishing vessels. The financial compensation has increased from EUR 412,500 to EUR 487,500 per year.
