Brussels, 04/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Commission is pleased that Porsche has modified its agreements and opened its official after-sales service network to independent repairers, who fulfil the qualitative criteria. These independent repairers may now apply to join the official network of Porsche service centres. With these modifications Porsche no longer ties the provision of after sales services with an obligation to sell new cars. According to the new distribution system, all Porsche dealers will have the freedom to subcontract after-sales servicing to any authorised Porsche service centre. Selection criteria stipulates that: the repair shop may however not sell sports cars or sport utility vehicles from major brands. But according to the Commission's investigation, only up to about 8% of the operators active in the car business in Europe. The new regulation on car distribution entered into its last transition phase on 1 October 2003 before complete application on 1 October 2005 and now compels car manufacturers to make a choice between selective distribution (outlets chosen according to strict territory but which can also open sales outlets everywhere in Europe) or exclusive (a given territory allocated to outlets but which can re-sell cars to any middle man, including supermarkets).
