THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) ep/constitution

19/04/2004 (Agence Europe) - Thierry Cornillet (EPP-ED, France) and four other MEPs have submitted a written declaration calling on the EU Council to take into account, during the plenary early May in Strasbourg, the situation of discussions on the European Constitution. It already has 130 signatures, a press release states, explaining that next week's plenary will provide an opportunity to gather the extra signatures needed. The declaration had been submitted also by Jo Leinen (PES, Germany), Monica Frassoni (Greens/EFA, Italy), Diana Wallis (ELDR, British) and Mariotto Segni (UEN, Italy). Signatories include the presidents of the EPP-ED and ELDR Groups, Hans-Gert Pöttering and Graham Watson, the vice-president of the Socialist Group, Pervenche Berès, and the Chair of the Constitutional Committee, Giorgio Napolitano.
