22/03/2004 (Agence Europe) - On 22 March, World Water Day, the European Commission confirmed its intentions of setting up a "special facility" to extend access to drinking water (and thus develop sanitary infrastructure) in the Africa, Caribbean and Pacific countries (ACP). This facility, an initiative launched last year by Romano Prodi shortly after the Johannesburg Summit, will have an initial financial envelope of 500 million EUR.
