27/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - With the adoption on Thursday of a resolution on the preparation of the Spring Summit 2004, the European Parliament insists once more on practical implementation of the Lisbon and Gothenburg strategies. The Parliament mainly calls on Member States and on the private sector to make greater investment in research in order to achieve the 3% of GDP objective by 2010. It invites the Member States to present national plans for credible application and the first results by mid 2004. The Parliament also stresses the need for massive investment in renewable energies, energy savings and energy efficiency measures. It declares it is convinced that intelligent reform of the Stability and Growth Pact is necessary to establish the balance of the European economy more rapidly (244 in favour, 234 against and 11 abstentions).
