Business climate indicator is down in euro zone

Brussels, 27/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - According to data provided by the European Commission on Friday, the business climate indicator was down in February in the euro zone: 0.01 compared to 0.11 in January. February was marked mainly by a fall in production estimates, export orders and stocks of finished goods. The Commission also published the results of the economic sentiment index, which remained stable in February at 96.7 points in the EU and 96.0 in the euro zone. Within the EU, a slight fall in the sentiment indicator for the building sector was offset by a small improvement in consumer moral, the Commission explains. In the euro zone, the Commission noted a slight improvement in the consumer confidence indicator, but a loss of morale in the construction sectors and the retail sale of goods. The economic sentiment for the industry sector remained at the same level as in January not only in the euro zone but also in the whole of the EU.
