"Anti-dumping" measures proposed on imports of large rainbow trout from Norway and Faeroe Islands

Brussels, 25/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - ON 18 February, the European Commission adopted a proposal to bring in "anti-dumping" measures on imports of large rainbow trout from Norway and the Faeroe Islands. The measures proposed are in the form of ad valorem duty, between 19.9 and 54.4% applicable to these imports.

The procedure was opened by a notice of initiation published in the Official Journal on 19 December 2002. An investigation was carried out in the premises of producer-exporters, Community importers and Community producers, revealing that the Community industry suffered due to dumping imports from Norway and the Faeroe Islands. All interests at stake were examined, especially those of independent importers, users and consumers, leading to the conclusion that bringing in measures did not run counter to the Community's interests.

Member States were consulted on the Commission's proposal: nine approved it, three opposed it, due to doubts as to the representative nature of the Community industry and the Community's interest, and three abstained. The Council is invited to adopt this regulation, to be published in the Official Journal no later than 18 March 2004.
