US embargo on certain meat products and French foie gras introduced same say as European embargo on US chickens and eggs

Brussels, 25/02/2004 (Agence Europe) - On the very day that the European Commission introduced an embargo on live chickens and eggs from the USA to protect the EU against avian flu, which has been detected in Texas (EUROPE yesterday p 8), the USA decided to apply an embargo on pork meat imports and foie gras from France.

The American veterinary authorities say that this is not a tit-for-tat response from farmers. They say that their decision is motivate by the result of a veterinary...
