Brussels, 28/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - As predicted (EUROPE of 24 January, p.11), on Tuesday during the first meeting of the conciliation committee, the European Parliament and Council reached an agreement on the proposal of directive relating to the safety of third country aircraft using Community airports. The agreement must now be endorsed by the Parliament (majority of votes) and by the Council (qualified majority). Once in force, the directive will make it compulsory to ensure that information is circulated on the safety of third country aircraft and on inspection of aircraft that could present a safety risk. We recall that the European Parliament had urged for the directive to be implemented after the tragic Charm el Cheik accident.
