France recommends solution based on subsidiarity for reduced rates of VAT on catering

Brussels, 20/01/2004 (Agence Europe) - During the Ecofin Council on Tuesday in Brussels, French Minister of the Economy Francis Mer again tabled the subject of reduced VAT rates on services including catering. In order to circumvent Germany and Denmark, which are still opposed to the proposals put forward by the European Commission in July, the minister spoke of the principle of subsidiarity.
