Brussels, 21/11/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday the European Commission adopted an amended proposal on the new status for officials and other European Community agents, following the most recent concertations with union organisations that finished on 12 November. The revised proposal takes into account the results of the discussion that took place in September at the concertation committee, made up of personnel representatives, delegates from Member States and a representative from the management of each institution (EUROPE 2 October p 9). The main changes, compared to the Council guidelines last May (EUROPE 20 May) involve the time period for the adaptation of remuneration that now increases to ten years, the reference period for calculating rates for updating (12 years) and the calculation of the annual adaptation rate for pension contributions. According to the most recent Commission calculations, status reform, which I due to enter into force on 1 May 2004, will allow for economies in the budget to be obtained to the tune of EUR 632 million between 2003-10.
