30/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - On 31 October in Livorno (Italy), the Committee of the Regions is organising a Euro-Mediterranean Conference on the theme, "For a New Euro-Mediterranean Area". The committee considers that, "this event will enable representatives from regional and local authorities on the two sides of the Mediterranean to examine development in the Euromed partnership within decentralised cooperation and cultural dialogue, since its launch in 1995, and reflect upon ways of strengthening the links between town and regions around the Mediterranean within the framework of the Barcelona process". The committee will adopt a declaration at this event on enlargement and the role of towns and regions, which will be sent to the sixth Euromed Interministerial Conference in Naples on 2-3 December.
