Strasbourg, 24/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - In its adoption, during the emergency debate on Thursday, of a resolution by its committee on development on the situation in Burundi, the European Parliament is calling for all parties rapidly to implement the political and military clauses of the Protocol of Pretoria. It calls upon the Council and the Commission to continue in the process of peace and reconstruction in Burundi. The Parliament invites Agathon Rwasa's National Liberation Front to follow the path of dialogue, and calls upon the Burundi authorities to do all they can to stimulate negotiations with the movement. It insists on access for humanitarian aid to all civil populations and on the correct working conditions for NGOs, especially in the health sector. It invites the Commission to reinforce staff and the safety conditions of its delegation to Bujumbura.
