Brussels, 24/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - As we have already pointed out, the European Commission confirmed on Thursday that it is currently in discussion with the French government on the subject of recapitalisation of the French group, Bull. The French agency, AFP, which cites a source familiar with the dossier, had announced the day before that discussions had taken place between the parties in order to reach a compromise allowing Bull to reimburse France. "We are discussing with the French government on recapitalisation of Bull, but nothing has yet been decided", Spokesman Tilman Lueder commented. "If recapitalisation results in Bull being able to pay back the bridging loan, this procedure (Ed.: before the Court of Justice) no longer has any sense as the money will have been paid back", he continued. On 1 October, the Commission decided to take action against France at the Court of Justice for failing to recover the loan of EUR 450 million granted to Bull one year earlier. According to the French economic press, Bull is currently studying two or three recapitalisation plans one of which would include France Telecom and the Japanese equipment manufacturer, NEC.
