Debates next week on Middle East and death penalty

Brussels, 17/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Conference of President of the European Parliament has added two themes to Wednesday's plenary agenda - Council and Commission declarations on a universal moratorium on the death penalty; the Menendez del Valle report (PES, Spain) on the theme of "Peace and Dignity in the Middle East". On Tuesday, commissioner Pedro Solbes will provide the recommendations of the Commission on France's budget deficit. For the detailed agenda: Europe yesterday pp 15 and 16. Thursday: debates on civil rights will focus on the situation in Burundi, Central Asia (Turkmenistan) and Nepal.

Other events during the session: Monday, budgetary control committee continues its work on Eurostat affair; Thursday, the Conference of Presidents will award the Sakharov Prize for 2003 (all the United Nations or some of their representatives.
