Luxembourg, 13/10/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Council of Ministers of the EU on Monday adopted without debate a regulation extending the exemptions granted to Finland and Sweden in their Accession Act on the fat content of milk for human consumption, until 30 April 2004. This figure, which is 1% in Finland and 3% in Sweden, remains lower than provided for in Community provisions (3.5% for whole milk), die to consumer taste and public health protection measures (reduction of heart disease). The Special Agriculture Committee (SAC) gave its agreement in principle to this proposal on 22 September. The European Parliament approved this proposal last Thursday, in its adoption of the report by the Frenchman Joseph Daul (see EUROPE of 11 October 2003).
