Brussels, 22/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - As a guest on Sunday of "Le Grand Jury LCI-RTL-Le Monde" programme, Commissioner Pascal Lamy said he felt that "at least one European Commissioner per country is needed". Explaining that the size and the proportion of the European budget should be increased above all to guarantee the collective financing of major infrastructures, Mr Lamy said: "I believe a European tax is needed". "The right European tax is a tax on companies", he added. The Commissioner also took a stance in favour of a referendum in order to "renew the marriage contract between the French and European construction". He nonetheless invited the political staff to stop using "double talk". "If we go on describing Europe as the teaspoon of cod liver oil that we must take every morning, then we mustn't be surprised to see Euro-scepticism grow", he said.
