22/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) has appointed Martin Westlake to the post of Head of its Communication Division. Mr Westlake, who officially took over his duties on 16 September, has pursued a career within the European institutions in both Brussels and Strasbourg for more than 15 years. His last post was that of Head of Unit with responsibility for the Tempus and Erasmus Mundus programmes in the Commission's DG for Education and Culture. Mr Westlake is also the author of a number of textbooks about the European Union and its institutions. He recently published a major biography of Neil Kinnock, currently the Commission's Vice-President with responsibility for Administrative Reform. He is also a visiting Professor at the College of Europe in Bruges.
