09/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - The EU's Foreign Trade Association (FTA) is hoping that the Ministerial Cancun Conference will "provide the signal for completing the Doha Round deadline planned in 2005". Jan Eggert, Secretary General, pointed out that "European business needed perspectives". He also pointed out that reductions in tariff barriers and non-tariff barriers, facilitation of trade, liberalisation of services, improving anti-dumping rules and multilateral rules on investment were association priorities. He considers that such improvements would have an immediate effect in the field of action for their members. Mr Eggert explained that, "if the interests of developing countries and less advanced countries are acknowledged in the negotiation processes and if countries are admitted as suitable partners, the final results for the Doha Development Agenda will be winners all round".
