Brussels, 02/09/2003 (Agence Europe) - François Choisel and Bernard Chalumeau, President and Secretary General of the Alliance for France's Sovereignty, have written to MEPs affirming that the draft Constitution presented by the European Convention does not have unanimous support within the Convention, as the "counter-report" adopted by a group of Convention Members shows. The group includes French national William Abitbol (Vice-President of the Group of a Europe of Democracy and Differences at the EP). The Intergovernmental Conference (IGC), which is to open in October, "is in no way bound by the draft referred to it and should make major changes to it", the French separatists say. They consider that the next IGC should be more inspired by "the manifesto for a Charter of Sovereignty" adopted by the sovereignists' summit in Nice in December 2000. The manifesto, they recall, "is based on the principle that citizens will not be reconciled with the European idea unless the principle of sovereignty is a precondition for all institutional construction and unless real application of this is guaranteed".
