On Wednesday, Commission is to make solidarity fund proposal for Portugal, and Raffarin is to visit for French request

Brussels, 25/08/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the European Commission will be proposing aid for Portugal from the European Solidarity Fund in order to help it cover the cost of the fires that have devastated over 300,000 hectares of forest this summer. Portugal hopes to benefit from considerable help from the fund for natural disasters, given the magnitude of the damage. According to a first estimate by Portugal, damage exceeds EUR 800 million.
