Stoffaës report says creation of regulatory authorities would be useful to ensure general interests are respected in transport, energy and telecoms

Brussels, 30/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - The creation of regulatory authorities for network industries may prove necessary for electricity and the railways and for granting satellite and radio frequency licences, notes a report by a study group chaired by Christian Stoffaës. The authorities would independently monitor the application of EU rules and ensure balance between competition and other needs, such as public service imperatives.
