Avalanche of infringement proceedings against Member States for failing to respect "habitats" and "wild brids" directives

Brussels, 25/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to take action against eight Member States for failing to respect Community legislation to conserve nature in Europe, despite several warnings having already been given.

Commenting on the decisions, Environment Commissioner, Margot Wallström, said: "Member States have committed themselves to halting the loss of bio-diversity in the EU by 2010(1). If this objective is to be achieved, Member States need to reinforce...
