Javier Solana congratulates Serbian Prime Minister on reforms

Brussels, 21/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - Javier Solana, EU High Representative for CFSP, on Tuesday congratulated the Serbian Prime Minister, Zoran Zivkovic, for his "positive contribution to the necessary reforms in Serbia", despite the difficult circumstances following the assassination of then Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic. "Whether in the fight against organised crime, or in co-operating with the International Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, or in dealing with reform of the Armed Forces, as well as with constitutional and electoral reforms, it would have been very difficult to achieve more in such a short period of time. I wish to congratulate you publicly for your leadership", declared Mr Solana. The High Representative also welcomed the "constructive" relationship that exists between the governments of Serbia and Montenegro with the new Union framework. He re-affirmed the EU's support to the process of reform, and indicated his wish to see most of them adopted soon, in order to make sure that the European Summit in Thessaloniki is a success.
