13/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - Following a meeting on Monday in Ankara with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Head of the Italian government, Silvio Berlusconi, said that he would concentrate efforts, as President of the European Council during the second half of 2003 on supporting Turkey's candidature for EU accession. In this context, he also intends to personally get involved in finding a solution for Cyprus. He stated that, "The EU would succeed in regarding the USA not as in an inferior position and Europe would also become a great power, not only militarily but also militarily". He also added that this would only be possible when Europe opened its borders to Turkey, the Ukraine, Byelorussia and the Russian Federation.
