Brussels, 13/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - In a communiqué released on 8 May, the Commission of the Bishops Conference of the European Community (COMECE), announced that a pilgrimage, entitled "Santiago 2004", would take place in Saint James of Compostella next spring in "celebration of the unification of Europe" at the occasion of ten other nations accession to the EU on 1 May 2004. This pilgrimage is expected to bring together 300 pilgrims. From 21-24 April, theological congress will be held on European construction and Christian faith, as well as the plenary assembly of COMECE during which the Bishops Conference, accession countries will become full members. This initiative is supported by the Presidents, Pat Cox and Romano Prodi, as well as Bertie Ahern the Irish Prime Minister (who will be Presiding over the European Council during the first half of 2004).
