European Audiovisual Observatory to launch Korda database in Cannes on 16 May

Brussels, 13/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - In Cannes on Friday 16 May, the European Audiovisual Observatory will be launching a free online database of public aid for the film and audiovisual industry in Europe, known as Korda. It contains detailed information about 141 aid bodies and 502 aid programmes in 30 countries, including European, national and regional aid. Korda will be a valuable tool for people trying to get funding for a film in Europe, but also for aid bodies, regulators and politicians. The European Audiovisual Observatory explains in a press release that the total aid available on an annual basis for cinema in Europe is EUR 1.3 billion. Korda will form the basis of a report on public aid for cinema and the audiovisual industry in Europe, to be published in October 2003 in partnership with the EIB. The Observatory has announced that in London in November, together with the EIB, it will be organising a conference on public funding.
