The largest gas company in Spain, GAS NATURAL, has announced that it will be withdrawing from a hostile take-over bid launched on 10 March for IBERDROLA. This follows the veto of the Spanish energy regulator's veto. The National Energy Commission believed that the merger between GAS NATURAL and IBERDROLA would create a group whose debt would be excessive. See EI on 12 March.
