Brussels, 06/05/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday in Geneva, the Union is expected to receive the formal approval to sanction "made in America", including Florida fruit juice and certain steel products up to EUR 4.043 bn in the affair of tax subsidies for exports, better known as FSC/ETI. Two proposals have been put to the Congress, which is being called on legislate in a way that would reform this Foreign Sales Corporation system, criticised by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and its predecessor, GATT. One of the options could consist in gradually phasing out the fiscal benefits given to the main US exporters since the 1970s instead of immediately withdrawing them, as suggested in the Thomas project put forward last summer by the President of the influential Ways and Means committee.
