29/04/2003 (Agence Europe) - In an editorial to the April newsletter of the Institut d'études de sécurité de l'Union européenne, entitled Reconstruire (following the Iraq war), Nicole Gnesotto, the Institute's director, says that the EU must now arrange its priorities according to importance since the Balkans, Iran, North Korea and, above all, the general battle to combat arms proliferation, will clearly be other crucial tests of the political cohesion of Europe. A good reason to get down to business with these dossiers, if only to identify areas of possible disagreement with US policy and hence the danger of new divisions over these issues, explains the head of the Paris Institute, adding that it is necessary to hold discussions among Europeans and with the US. She writes that in fact it is completely surrealist for Europeans, who are so inclined to discuss anything and everything, to refuse to think together about the important issues, namely deep changes in the leading world power. She also focuses on the need to find the foundations of Franco-British cooperation which will be essential with regard to future challenges.
