ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) equipment

French group ALSTOM, specialised in transports and energy, is going to sell its industrial turbine business to the German group SIEMENS for EUR 1 bn. The deal will bring the company about EUR 950 million and assume the remainder in debt. ALSTOM is planning to divide its EUR 5 bn debt by two by March 2005. The business activities to be sold represent 10% of ALSTOM's POWER division, which obtained a turnover of EUR 1.25 bn in the 2002/03 tax year.
