26/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - Disappointed by the results of the Spring Summit of 2003, for which it was expecting a package of measures to re-launch the economy, the European Confederation of Trade Unions (ETUC) has expressed its regret (in a press statement) that the summit did not "undertake a fundamental re-think of the Union's current macroeconomic stance and the continuing and excessive reliance on stability-oriented policies, despite growing risks of deflation, was not recognised - perhaps another victim of the Iraq conflict". In connection with the European Employment Taskforce (the ETUC has doubts about its pertinence), the ETUC welcomes the fact that the suggestions regarding jobs were aimed at being integrated into the new European Employment Strategy and that the Summit had taken into account the opinions of social partners.
