Brussels, 26/03/2003 (Agence Europe) - The Greek Presidency announced on Wednesday that it would present a note to the Transport Ministers at the Council on Thursday and Friday, examining various measures to be taken in support of the aviation sector if it suffers badly from the impact of the war in Iraq. This note, along with the European Commission communication on the subject which was adopted on Wednesday (see EUROPE of 26 March, p.7), will be presented to the Ministers at lunch. However, "discussion of the issue during the working sessions has not been ruled out", said the Presidency. Without wishing to go into details on the content of the document, which is still to be finalised by Coreper before the Council, the Presidency indicated that it was not a question of making "concrete proposals", but of looking for potential means of action to face the consequences of war on the aviation sector, especially from the point of view of insurance, timetable slots and security measures.
