Brussels, 04/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - What must we wait for, and for how long, before denouncing the cooperation agreement with the regime in Hanoi?, wondered the European MP Marco Pannella (Italian Radical) in a question to the European Commission in which he details the latest violations of fundamental rights against the 'mountain folk, the protestant population which live on the high plateaus in Vietnam and persecuted by the regime.' Since 27 July 2002, Vietnam does not respect the demands made by the United Nations Human Rights Commission, recalls Mr Panenlla, who notes that the EU/Vietnam agreement signed in 1995 is based on 'the respect for human rights and democratic principals.' He wonders, 'which rights could induce the EU to denounce the agreement?
