Commission to give details on Wednesday of progress in reforming administration - Unveiling of its 2003 communications strategy

Brussels, 27/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday the European Commission will be unveiling a Communication by Commissioner Neil Kinnock on progress in administrative reform. In the document, the Commission will announce that it has implemented most of the 98 measures identified in the White Paper on Reform of the European Institutions, like the adoption (in April 2002) of the proposed rehash of the rules in the regulations governing European public service (currently being examined by the Council); the implementation of most of the Financial Regulation measures (since 1 January 2003); and the adoption of a new way of presenting the budget (resources broken down per heading). The Commission lists the decisions still to be taken, such as changing the accounting system, measures connected with management through activities and improving the presentation of the reports by Director Generals.

At its weekly meeting (held on Thursdays), the Commission is expected to adopt various documents on its 2003 communication strategy, along with an information note on the EU's priority information topics in 2003, the annual communication programme for 2003, and an information note on "Europe's Spring".
