24/01/2003 (Agence Europe) - In a new survey carried out by the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA), Prof. Schöffski. From the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (Germany), highlights that there are huge differences in the access to innovative medicines between the various European countries. Drawing on data collated in studies that were mainly carried out between 1997-1999, Prof. Schöffski asserts that current drug budget management in many EU countries deprives patients of access to the most up-to-date medicines and causes prices to rise in the long term, as well as a decline in the health of the population affected. Therefore In France, 9 in 10 patients with acute asthma do not receive adequate care, in Germany one million people suffer from migraine unnecessarily and Only 5 percent of UK patients with a prostate cancer are treated by an oncologist. The survey can be obtained from the EFPIA.
