09/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - On the occasion of the traditional summit of the Party of European Liberals before each European Council, the President of the Liberal Group at the European Parliament, Graham Watson, plans to propose that the European Union, during review of Turkey's candidature in mid-2003, should verify whether the Copenhagen criteria have been fulfilled and whether it is therefore possible to set a date for Turkey's EU membership negotiations to begin. The summit of the Party, chaired by Werner Hoyer, took place on Wednesday evening in Copenhagen, on the eve of the European Council, with the participation of Danish and Belgian Prime Ministers Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Guy Verhofstadt, and the president of the European Parliament, Pat Cox.
