Brussels, 04/12/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Community Studies Association (ECSA) and the European Commission' s Directorate general for Education and Culture are organising an international conference on "peace, security and stability" in Brussels on 5th and 6th December. President Prodi and commissioners Viviane Reding and Antonio Vitorino will participate, as well as Jean-Luc Dehaene, vice-president of the European Convention, José Maria Gil-Robles, President of the European Movement and member of the European Parliament, and 200 academics from EU countries, candidate countries, Russia, Israel, Lebanon and the US. They will participate in an in-depth academic reflection of the new responsibilities of an enlarged Europe in the domains of stability and security - internal and external. They will also reflect on the role of the European Union as regards conflict prevention, conflict resolution and international and intercultural dialogue. This conference follows a symposium on intercultural dialogue, organised by the European Commission last March in the framework of the Jean Monnet Project.
