Luxembourg, 22/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - According to estimates published by Eurostat on Tuesday, the euro zone's industrial production fell 0.2% in September 2002 compared to the previous month. It had increased 0.2% in August after dropping 0.5% in July. Industrial production of the EU15 fell 0.1% in September 2002 after being stable in August and having fallen 0.1% in July. The energy index was stable in the euro zone and increased 0.2% in the EU15. The largest rises were observed in Luxembourg (4.2%), the Netherlands (1.6%) and Portugal (0.8%), with the largest falls in Ireland (-3.2%), Germany (-1.4%) and Greece (-1.0%). In annual terms (September 2002/September 2001), industrial production fell 0.6% in the euro zone and 0.9% in the EU15. The energy index remained unchanged in the euro zone but fell 1.1% in the EU15. Italy (-2.7%), the United Kingdom and Luxembourg (each -2.6%) recorded the largest drops. The only increases observed were in Ireland (8.2%), Belgium and Spain (1.3% each) and Finland (1.2%).
