21.11.2002 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the European Commission decided to confirm the nomination of the 53 year old Italian civil servant, Fabrizio Barbaso to the post of Assistant Director General at DG Agriculture. He will be in charge of the co-ordination of market flows, institutional relations, communication and quality (EUROPE yesterday, p.13). It is necessary to point out that Mr. Barbaso has already been carrying out the duties of this post since October 2000, but his nomination had been cancelled by the Court of Justice (for procedural reasons). Since July, Mr Barboso has been representing DG Agriculture in meetings of the Special Agriculture Committee (SAC) for the mid-term review of the CAP. From 1997 - 2000, Mr. Barbaso was director at DG External Relations ("Directorate Balkans, EFTA, EEE, other European countries").
