Brussels, 19/11/2002 (Agence Europe) - According to a European Commission spokesperson, on Tuesday in Brussels, the Union and Brazil signed an agreement memorandum covering bilateral co-operation up to the end of 2006. This memorandum is expected to contain an indicative budget o almost EUR 64 million (subject to adjustment). It reflects the following priorities identified last August in the European Commission strategy documents: public administration, economic co-operation, social development, scientific and technologic research, the environment. Three projects mentioned in the memorandum were initialled last May and co-signed by the Director General of External Relations, Guy Legras and the Ambassador, Graça Lima. They have already been deployed by Brazil for modernising the public administration, supporting fiscal reform and training police forces in human rights. A fourth, aiming to set up a network or technological centres is being prepared.
